Beehiiv Review 2026: Is It Worth It for a Podcaster?
This post contains affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you sign up through them, at no cost to you. Beehiiv is one of them. See our Affiliate Disclosure. Read on Beehiiv’s pricing page, help center, and October 1 announcement on October 19 and 20, 2026.
Beehiiv is worth it for a podcaster whose main asset is a newsletter and who wants the show in the same login. It hosts podcasts on every plan, including the free one. It is a poor pick for a show that only needs audio hosting, because its download caps are low, it takes MP3 and WAV only, and its ad network pays on email, not on episodes.
One scope note before the rest. We have not hosted a podcast on Beehiiv. This review is built from Beehiiv’s own help center, its pricing page, and the dashboard captures we hold, and every limit below carries the date it was read.
Key takeaways
- Beehiiv hosts podcasts on every plan, with 1 show and 5,000 downloads a month on Free, and 2 shows and 15,000 downloads on Lite.
- Beehiiv accepts MP3 and WAV episodes up to 500 MB, and its audio guidelines say M4A, AAC, FLAC, AIFF, and OGG are not currently supported.
- Beehiiv’s Ad Network pays on email opens and clicks, and its FAQ says only email sends count, so a podcast episode does not earn from it.
- Beehiiv’s premium podcast feeds need at least one paid subscription tier, with 1 private feed on Lite and 2 on Pro.
- Beehiiv does not import another host’s download history, so analytics for a moved show start fresh from the import date.
- Beehiiv publishes a podcast episode separately from the newsletter, so publishing an episode does not email your list.
Is Beehiiv any good for hosting a podcast?
It covers the basics and is new at them. TechCrunch reported the launch of native podcast hosting on April 2, 2026, so the product is about six months old. Beehiiv’s help article, updated October 7, says you can create shows, upload episodes, generate an RSS feed, and distribute to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, and other platforms from the dashboard. The RSS feed is available as soon as you save a show.
Once your Beehiiv website is published, each episode gets its own page, with a player, cover art, show notes, and a transcript with timestamps. Transcripts are generated automatically after upload, and the help article says they cannot be edited afterward. Show notes accept bold, italic, and links, but not headers. Episode types are Full, Trailer, and Bonus, with one trailer allowed per show.
That is a full feature list for a free plan. The limits are where it gets tight.
What are the limits on Beehiiv’s podcast hosting?
Downloads and shows depend on the plan. This table is from Beehiiv’s help center.
| Plan | Shows | Monthly downloads |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 per workspace | 5,000 |
| Lite | 2 per workspace | 15,000 |
| Pro | Unlimited, per the table | 50,000 |
| Enterprise | Unlimited | 100,000 and up |

Beehiiv’s own page disagrees with itself on Pro. The table lists unlimited shows. The FAQ on the same page says Pro plans support up to 4. Confirm the number with Beehiiv before you plan a network on Pro. The price tables are in our Beehiiv pricing guide.
Files are the other limit. Beehiiv’s audio guidelines, updated June 22, 2026, accept MP3 and WAV, cap an episode at 500 MB, and list M4A, AAC, FLAC, AIFF, and OGG as not currently supported. They recommend 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps mono for a voice show or 192 kbps for a show with music. Our file size limits by host page compares other caps, and mono vs stereo shows why those sizes hold.
Moving in carries a cost. The help article says Beehiiv does not currently import historical download statistics, so when you import an existing show, episodes and metadata transfer and analytics start fresh from that date. It suggests exporting your analytics first. The feed URL can only be changed if you later move hosting away from Beehiiv, and the redirect is set from the same screen.
Can you make money from a podcast on Beehiiv?
From listener subscriptions, yes. From ads, not yet on the audio side. Beehiiv’s premium podcast article, updated October 4, says a gated show needs at least one active paid subscription tier. The feed is public by default, and a Premium toggle gates it. You can gate a whole show, gate selected episodes as bonuses, or run a separate ad-free feed. Lite allows 1 private feed and Pro allows 2.
Paying subscribers get a private RSS link by email. Beehiiv names Spotify as the platform where it connects the premium feed directly, and for other apps subscribers paste the private URL. Beehiiv takes 0 percent of paid subscription revenue on Lite and Pro, though Stripe’s 2.9 percent plus $0.30 per transaction still applies.
The Ad Network is built around the email. Its FAQ, updated October 1, says it is open to anyone on a paid plan who is actively sending on Beehiiv. Earnings are CPM on unique opens or CPC on payable clicks, payouts arrive on the 20th for the prior month, and only email sends count. TechCrunch reported in April that Beehiiv planned to extend ads to podcasts. We could not find a launch announcement or a help article for it, so treat podcast ad insertion as not available. If ads on episodes matter, the cheapest hosts with dynamic ad insertion compares the options.

That panel is a snapshot of the offers one account saw in August, not a rate card. Offers change, and the advertiser sets the payout model.
How does Beehiiv help a show grow?
Mostly through the newsletter. Beehiiv’s recommendations FAQ, updated October 9, says recommending and being recommended for free is available on all plans. Paid recommendations sit on paid plans, where you pay other publishers per verified subscriber, and a 20 percent fee is built into the marketplace price. Beehiiv retired Boosts, which that article says were renamed paid recommendations. The referral program, which rewards readers for bringing in subscribers, is on all paid plans.
None of that touches the audio directly. A listener who finds you in a podcast app does not see a recommendation, and the help article is plain that publishing an episode does not send a newsletter. To tell your list about an episode, you write a post and link to it. That is one extra step per episode.

How much does Beehiiv cost?
Free costs nothing up to 2,500 subscribers. Paid plans, called Lite and Pro since Beehiiv renamed them on October 1, are priced by subscriber count, starting at $49 a month billed yearly for Lite and $95 for Pro at 1,000 subscribers. The price follows your list, not your downloads, which is the opposite of most dedicated hosts. The full table by subscriber tier is in our Beehiiv pricing guide.

What are Beehiiv’s downsides for a podcaster?
- Low download caps: 5,000 a month on Free and 15,000 on Lite sit below the 20,000 and 30,000 that Transistor’s and Captivate’s entry plans list in our price tracker, last checked September 24.
- A narrow file list: MP3 and WAV only, with a 500 MB ceiling per episode.
- No audio ads yet: the Ad Network counts email sends only, and podcast insertion is announced, not documented.
- Fixed transcripts and plain show notes: transcripts cannot be edited after generation, and show notes cannot carry headers.
- History does not travel: importing a show starts analytics from zero.
- A price tied to your list: Beehiiv counts subscribers, so a growing list raises the bill even if the show stays the same size.
- Inconsistent documentation: the Pro show limit differs within one help article, and a launch-day report listed M4A support that the current guidelines do not.
Who should use Beehiiv, and who should skip it?
A newsletter writer adding a show: start on the free plan, with one show and 5,000 downloads. Start Beehiiv free. The downside: it stops at 2,500 subscribers, and the first paid step is $49 a month billed yearly.
A show that sells a premium feed to its list: Lite, which adds paid subscriptions and a private feed. The downside: 1 private feed, 15,000 downloads, and Beehiiv branding stays until Pro.
A podcast-first show that wants ads on episodes: skip Beehiiv for now and use a dedicated host. Transistor pricing and Captivate pricing cover two that include unlimited shows. How to choose a podcast host covers what to weigh.
